The Dutch claimed to be superior to the original inhabitants because they were white and laid claim to the land that was owned by the Khoikhoi tribe causing the tribe to flee inland.  Other tribes had not only land but also possessions such as cattle taken from them by the new settlers.    “Deforestation, drought and famine had begun in 1795 and would continue through 1870.  This desperate condition intensified the completion over resources and frequently led to violent struggles” (Soomo Publishing, 2012).  To make matters worse for the natural inhabitants of Africa, gold and diamonds were discovered.  This created a mass migration of people from all over the world in search of the gold and diamonds.   The British remained in control of this area and ended up gaining more wealth than any other interest they had.  The British imperialism was only going to get worse for the Africans in South Africa.  They were required to have passes to be in town, had to live in men only camps and had to commit to working in the mines for so many years.  If these criteria were not met, they could be arrested and beaten.  The diamond and gold discovery industrialized the South African continent.  An Apartheid policy also stemmed from the imperialism in South Africa.  This is a fancy word for segregation and lasted from 1948 until 1994.  The indigenous people in Afri
