DIT1 TASK 3.docx Refugee Crisis As the world continue to face crises due to global warming such as fire, flood, volcanos and tsunamis, refugee crises are increasingly becoming a global issue with the increase in number of refugees. Refugee issues have been in existence since the end of the WWII, but we are facing the worst of refugee crisis in modern day society. “Refugee as define by worldrelief.org is someone who has fled their home country and cant return due to fear of persecution based on religion, race, nationality, political opinion or membership†(World Relief Op-Ed December 2015). A lot of situations have contributed to the current refugee crisis and I will be touching base on the listed causes of refugee crises listed below amongst them are -War and Civil war -Environmental and climate -Economic hardship According to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, as of January 2019, 70.8 million (41.3 million internally, 25.9 million registered (20.4 million under UNHCR, 5.5 million under UNRWA), 3.5 million asylum seekers) had been displaced worldwide (UNHCR June 2019) Economic hardship is when someone leaves their place of nationality to another country, including crossing international boarders looking for an improved way of living. When you hear the word economic hardship, you might be asking the question how they are categorized as refugees.
