Macro_Analysis_Paper.docx SWK 5008 Homelessness in America SWK 5008: Macro Social Work Practice The Problem Murphy & Eghaneyan (2018) defines homelessness as people without stable, permanent, appropriate housing or the means and ability to acquire it. Khurshid & Gadnis™ (2019) states that œover 500,000 people in America suffer from homelessness every night. Of these 500,000 people, 37 % are children, 8% are veterans, and 48% are disabled (Khurshid & Gadnis, 2019, p.1). Likewise, every year, over three million people experience homelessness in the USA (Murphy & Eghaneyan, 2018). America has too many resources for people to have to sleep on the street. I live in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia, a place known as another Miami and the land of opportunity. There are many large and small businesses here and so many different forms of housing. However, when I travel into the metropolitan area, I see people sleeping under bridges. When I travel into the city, I see the same thing. It is beautiful downtown, except for all of the homeless individuals. It hurts my heart because the people sleeping on the streets, under bridges, abandoned buildings, and on benches in parks are human beings. They are someone™s sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, et cetera. No one deserves to not have a warm bed to sleep in when it™s cold outside, a door to close behind them to keep from getting attacked, and a roof over their head. Why Address Homelessness?
