As a resident of Texas, one of the organizations that counselor would utilize is the Texas Counseling Association. Additionally, organizations such as the American Counseling Association, the American Mental Health Counselors Association and the National Board of Certified Counselors are an integrate part of assisting counselors in remaining informed and legally and ethically responsible. These organizations also assist counselors to remain informed about new theoretical approaches, intervention techniques and changes in licensure requirements. Counselors are also provided updates about networking opportunities in their communities, which assist counselors in becoming advocates, mentors, resources, teachers and support service officers. It is necessary to continue educating oneself about the roles and responsibilities, associated with both one™s professional and personal identities, in this empathetic and rewarding profession.
