This has to have manifested by at least two criteria defined in the DSM-5 within a 12 month period. Some examples include, a great deal of time is spent in activities necessary to opatin opioid, use the opioid, or recover from the effects, craving, or a strong desire or urge to use opioids, and important social, occupations , or recreational activities are given up or reduced because of opioid use (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). There are 11 different criteria points in opioid use disorder all leading to greater use and tolerance increase. Information that would need to be obtained to address differential diagnosis would be to rule out suspicious or fake disorders, substance etiology and general medical conditions (SAMHSA, 2020).
