Unit 5 Discussion: Psychological Disorders

Select a character or person portrayed with a psychological disorder in the media. You may choose from television, movies, books, graphic novels, Internet media, etc. Your choice may be fictional character or real individual. Be sure to choose an individual or character you know in enough detail to write a thoughtful post.

In your post, include the following:

• Identify the character and the source (movie, etc.).
• Describe the behaviors that are symptomatic of the character's disorder.
• Compare and contrast the way the disorder is portrayed by your person/character versus how the disorder is discussed by professional sources, including your textbook.

When responding to your classmates, try to point out additional ways the popular portrayal differs from the professional one. Ask questions if the discussion addresses a person or character you are not familiar with.
