It can happen to anyone at anytime including the wealthy. Charleston and its close surrounding counties are tourist attractions for higher income vacationers. The rising cost of housing, food, clothing, electric have increased significantly over the course of the last few years. In doing the windshield survey, the homeless can be found on the streets of downtown Charleston where high end shops and restaurants are located. This has created a huge problem for the tourist city as many do not want to interact with the panhandling of the homeless. Shop owners complain that their customers are being harassed and the fact that they set up pallets and have their things covering the grounds as well as trash outside the shops are very worrisome and even prevent customers from entering the shops (Heaton, 2017). I interviewed one low-income individual who would be homeless were it not for the place he works gave him a place to stay. It happens to be shelter for the homeless where he now manages and cooks for those that stay there. He stated that his rent increase from $560 a month to $2000. He lived one street over from his work location
