Final_Project_Prep_1.9_1.docx    Final Project Prep 1.9  The disorder that this paper will investigate is bipolar disorder and the psychoanalytic interpretation of the disorder. The disease causes very extreme mood swings and is accompanied by emotional highs and lows. The highs are classified as mania, and the lows are classified as depression. A study by Alberto Solimano and Clelia Manfredi (2006) describes the disease as closely associated with depression, and manic episodes that are secondary.   Examining the different types of the disorder which are (1) bipolar I disorder, (2) bipolar II disorder, (3) Cyclothymic disorder, (4) bipolar disorder due to another medical or substance abuse disorder. The paper will only examine bipolar I disorder and how it is defined. Doctors have determined the when a patient exhibits manic episodes that last at a minimum of 7 days and is followed by psychotic features, this is bipolar I disorder (Hayes, 2019).   When looking at the psychoanalytic perspective, the focus is on how the unconscious mind and past experiences contribute to the disease.
