Descriptions_of_Dance.doc ARTS/100: Introduction To The Visual And Performing Arts Dance dates back to the Egyptian era, mostly by Priests, who used different movements to tell stories, to entertain, and for religious purposes. After dance made its first appearance in the Egyptian era it was then picked up by medieval dancers during Renaissance where a lot of new dances were created. Dances such as the waltz, ballet, tango, and the rumba quickly became popular tying to major historical events that were present through the years. As time went on tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, and so many more became popular, not only for entertainment purposes but for improving health, social skills, and lifting serotonin levels. In this essay I will talk about ballet and tap and how they have evolved over the years. I will also talk about different movements and styles and how they are used to portray a specific mood. The history of ballet began in the 1500s in Italy, where the term ball means œto dance. A woman by the name of Catherine de Medici married French King Henry II, where she then introduced the style to France. Ballet evolved over time in many ways, style being one of them. In the early 1500s dancers wore layers are layers of clothing, large headdresses, and ornaments. Costumes were designed more for the eye, but not for comfort. Dance steps were composed of small hops, slides, curtsies, promenades, and gentle turns (Atlanta Ballet, 2021). The steps and styles have evolved over the years in a big way. C
