Personal_Determinations.docx(1)  JUS-202HN   Personal Determinations of Ethical Standards  Working in law enforcement is not an easy task. Every day officers are faced with difficult situations where they have to make a snap judgment while also keeping their ethical beliefs that they hold dear and cling to in times of unknown. They want to do what is right by the law, but they also have their own values that they want to remain true to. They must not let their own personal code of ethics get in the way of the ethics code that officers must keep.  I value honesty very much. I try my very best to always be honest even if it hurts or makes me look bad. Being a servant to the public sometimes means that we have to be honest about certain situations that may make themselves look bad or tarnish their reputation. Being honest is the right thing to do and sometimes when someone is being honest, they œsubject themselves to social and professional ridicule (Schafer, 2002, p. 17). For example, if an officer reports their partner for drinking on the job, they can be shunned by their fellow officers for getting another officer in trouble. Being honest can make someone look bad. Being honest can be hard, but honesty makes for a great public servant. No one wants to be lied to.  One specific Christian value that is very apparent in law enforcement is service. Christians are called to serve their God and spread His word. Law enforcement is servants of the public. They are defined as public servants (US Legal, Inc., n.d.).
