You are also caring for Terrell Wallace (overflow from the pediatric unit). He is experiencing a sickle cell crisis. He is hospitalized for this crisis. At this time he is experiencing acute kidney injury from the sickle cell crisis. Explain the pathology that results in this renal complication.

With sickle cell disease, the red blood cells are misshaped and lack oxygen. These red blood cells get filtered through the kidney, however due to low oxygen the Kidney can not function properly therefore causing Kidney injury.
