Evidence Table Worksheet
PICOT Question: Among hospitalized patients needing an indwelling urinary catheter (P), does removal of the indwelling catheter within 72 hours (I), compared to leaving them in during the entire stay (C), reduce the amount of urinary tract infections (O), over a 6-month period (T)?
Plus
Will you have a comparison group or will subjects be their own controls?
There will be a comparison group. Comparing patients who have early removal of urinary catheters compared to those who keep them in longer have a higher chance of contracting a CAUTI.
Is a ‘time’ appropriate with your question—why or why not?
The time in my question was not appropriate when it came to finding research articles that fitted the allotted time. Most studies are performed over a longer period of time so that they have enough supporting evidence for their research.
