Week 4 discussion 1 Goal-Setting

Personally I am for goal setting at an organizational and individual level. The main reason as to why I say this is because there is a need for the organization to have the contribution of every employee for it to realize the full performance potential that is crafted in its mission and vision statement. An organization and has goals that it seeks to establish and this should be clearly outlined during the planning stage. It is therefore important for all the employees to understand the goals of the company or organization so that they can work according to the provisions. Employees are a special element when it comes to organizational success, and so it will be important that they are in tandem with the set goals. On the other hand it is still important for them to have personal goals. These goals need not be to the benefit of the organization, but they are supposed to create a path in which employees can grow and develop at their personal level. An important thing to remember is that the goals set by employees at their individual level should also reflect the company’s mission and vision statement (Daft, pg. 181). Ford among many organizations applies this strategy of goals at and individual and organizational level, and it has seen them remain competitive as far as performance is concerned.
