Independent Films Database
Project Description:
Independent Films is a local company that sets up screenings of independent films for the public at various venues in the area. They have been using an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of ticket sales and now realize the amount of redundant data they have been storing with each transaction. Management has decided that an Access database would be a better option for them, and they need help normalizing the data.
Instructions:
For the purpose of grading the project you are required to perform the following tasks:
Step Instructions Points Possible
1 Start Access. Open the downloaded Access file named a03ws05_grader_a1.accdb. Save the file with the name a03ws05Films_LastFirst, replacing LastFirst with your name. Enable the content, if necessary. 0
2 Use the Table Analyzer Wizard to help separate and normalize the data contained in the tblPurchases table. Rename the tables in the Table Analyzer Wizard to the following.
• Table1= tblTicketSales
• Table2 = tblCustomers
• Table3 = tblFilmScreenings 12
3 Continuing in the Wizard, move the CostofAdmission field from the tblFilmScreenings table to the tblTicketSales table after the Quantity field. In the tblFilmScreenings table, make ScreeningID the primary key. There are no typographical errors to correct in any of the tables. When prompted, do not create a query that looks like the original data. 10
4 In Design view, in the tblCustomers table, reposition the ID field as the first field in the table. 5
5 Modify the appropriate Field Properties to ensure that data in the FirstName, LastName, and E-mail fields are required for new and existing records. 10
6 Create a multiple-field index. Name it CustomerName and include the LastName and FirstName fields, sorted in Ascending order. 10
7 Change the data type for the E-mail field to Hyperlink. 7
8 Save the changes to the tblCustomers table. In Datasheet view, enter the following record as a new record. Enter Geno as the first name. Enter Crosby as the last name. Enter (412) 555-9551 as the phone number. Enter [email protected] as the e-mail address. Close the tblCustomers table. 10
9 In Design view of the tblTicketSales table, change the name of the ID field to TransactionID and reposition it as the first field in the table. 10
10 Create a new field after the CostofAdmission field and name it TicketTotal with a data type of Calculated. Add an expression that will multiply the quantity of tickets by the cost of admission. Change the format to Currency. 10
11 Save the changes to the tblTicketSales table, and then switch to Datasheet view. Create a filter that will display only the ticket sales fields for the film screenings taking place in the Root Cellar venue. Save the filter as a query with the name qryRootCellarTicketSales. 10
12 Remove the filter from the tblTicketSales table, and then close the table. 6
13 Close all database objects. Close the database and then exit Access. Submit the database as directed. 0
Total Points 100
