I would like to start this delicate situation with Mr . Newcomb on reflecting on the Martins Luther King, Jr quote, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.â€Â The main responsibility as a Registered Nurse is to provide physical, and emotional care to all patients equally. This particular quote talks to me primordially about the importance of silence and how much matter it can be for a patient. During our life long experience as nurses patients requests may seem immoral or incorrect at times, but at the same time they might look morally correct to the patient. While patient is under my care I must do anything to help him through the pain, suffering, and healing process. This particular patient, Mr. Newcomb, have requested me to do something unacceptable to my own understanding but critically important for him. This particular case calls me to comfort his feelings, his last wishes under the terrible diagnosis and let him meet with the mistress. I would allow the patient contact the mistress, allow them meet and definitely keep it private per patient desire. However , if I would be asked to verbalize a lie, I would kindly refuse it . Morally responsible nursing consists of being able to identify and respond to delicate situations like that, but also not be part of the
