Unit 1 Discussion: Active Directory

Part 1

When Active Directory is installed, the Guest user account is disabled by default.

  • Why do you think that's the case? Won't you have guests that need to login to the domain occasionally? What are the security risks, if any?

Part 2

You want all user desktop computers in the domain to have the same settings, so you create a policy set in the Computer Configuration node of a GPO linked to the domain.

  • Now that policy is impacting all the Domain Controllers, which was not what you had in mind. What happened? How do you fix it? How do you keep this type of situation from happening again?

The blank password permits the Guest account to access without requiring user to enter a password. The Guest account empowers incidental or one-time user, who doesn’t have an individual account on the PC, to sign into local server or area with limited rights and consents. The Guest account could be empowered, and the password can be set up if necessary, yet just by an individual from the Administrator group on the domain.
