servant project exp.docx  MGT -410  Service Project Experience  MGT -410  Over the years, I have done several different types of volunteering. I have been doing volunteer work off and on as a child. My mom was a schoolteacher and would take the Just Say No to Drugs club to the local homeless shelters and nursing homes to help. We prepared and served meals at the homeless shelters. We visited with and sang to elderly residents in the low-income nursing homes. Back then I learned the value of helping others, and the benefit of feeling satisfaction in knowing you made someones day. As an adult I have volunteered in Rehab centers and held food and toiletry drives for the homeless. One of my longer experiences in volunteering was for the Vegetarian Resource Group in Maryland. I answered a local online ad to volunteer for them initially for a few days. I visited the office and saw that it was small and had very dated computers and technology. The staff was tremendously gracious and informative. They worked in offices with no windows, and all were volunteers. They had no complaints about their computers or how slow everything was. I was inspired on how upbeat and friendly everyone was, despite the lack of consistently working computers and reliable internet. My job was to research vegetarian and vegan restaurants for their online veggie food directory. At the time I was not vegan or vegetarian, but I knew how important it was not only for our health, but the environment to cut back on or eliminate meat from
