don’t believe that this problem can be fixed without creating more, or other, problems. It has been attempted before many times. For example, with the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. It was created “to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and state academic assessments” (as cited, Korgen&Furst, 2012, Sec. 3.2). The reality of the act was that the teachers began teaching to the test and not to the material. My siblings and I were still in school when this change occurred and we remember when the schools focus towards test scores changed. I used to feel like I had actually learned things in school and felt accomplished at the end of the day, afterwards I felt like I was being told to memorize information so that I could pass the test. I am sure that the No Child Left Behind Act provided schooling for children who may not have had it before; and it may have increased the quality of schooling for some, but for others it decreased the quality of education we were receiving.
