(BBC, 2014). When it comes to medical ethics, it™s about examining a specific case and using logic and facts to decide what the best course of action is. There are two main ethical issues that took place in the malpractice case of Iturralde vs Hilo Medical Center. The first ethical issue in this case is when Dr. Robert Ricketson decided to perform surgery on Mr. Arturo Iturralde with spare parts from a kit that were not authorized for human implantation. The Hilo medical staff had an obligation to inventory the Medtronic M8 Titanium CD Horizon Kit and they failed to do so. Dr. Ricketson was made aware that the kit was not inventoried and he continued with the surgery anyway and was ethically wrong in doing so. By taking a piece of a screwdriver and implanting it in the patient he knowingly caused the patient harm. Mr. Iturralde was never informed of what took place during his surgery and that brings up another ethical issue of informed consent.
