For most outsiders, U.S. Army Soldiers are physically fit, but are they well? Wellness is a mindset. According to Halbert Dunn first introduced the term of wellness as œan integrated method of functioning which is orientated toward maximizing the potential of which the individual is capable (Kirkland, 2014). Based off Dunn™s definition, one puts all effort into accomplishing their fullest potential. This would include a mindset to control the eight dimensions of wellness; emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, occupational, physical, social, and spiritual (Garcia, 2015). So, are Soldier™s putting all their effort to accomplishing their fullest potential? In short, the answer is no. The U.S. Army has a culture problem with addiction to tobacco. Tobacco addiction limits Soldiers from reaching their fullest potential by effecting their emotional, financial, and social wellness. This paper will attempt to analyze tobacco use in the U.S. Army across the four general education lenses of history, humanities, the natural and applied sciences, and social sciences.
