Nightingale's environmental theory was one of the first nursing theories and is still relevant in today's nursing care. I feel I channel Nightingale when I approach to care for the sick. I ask myself, "Is this best for the patient?" Her whole focus was on the sick, their comfort, a cure (Tunstall, 2016). In this paper, I will step into Nightingale's role as the environmental theorist and describeher journey through the four stages of theorizing, syntax, theory testing, and evaluation.  First Stage  I, Florence Nightingale, care for soldiers who keep dying day and night from infection and poor environmental conditions. Many soldiers are dying from typhoid, cholera, and dysentery, not from injuries from the war. When I make my rounds on these soldiers, I think to  what could be done to save these soldiers' lives? With these questions fresh in my mind, I begin to investigate and lobby the royal commission to change the poor environmental conditions. I had a theory that nursing is not medication administration, but with the sanitation of the environment and improving ward conditions, can eliminate disease (Hunt, 2017).
