Describe the pros and cons of each as well as their likely applications.  There are many different types of networking cables and connectors that vary depending on the needs of the user. The most common type of cable is called a UTP which is short for a Unshielded Twisted Pair.  It is a cable that includes four different types of pairs of copper cables that are twisted together into pairs and then encased inside of tubing without protection.  UTP cables are broken up into four categories and nothing below a category 5 has been used. A category 5 cord can support bandwidth speeds up to 100 MHz and is used up to 100Mbps of Ethernet speeds.  Following a category 5 cord is a category 5e cord which shares a bandwidth speed with the 5 cord, but it has 1000 Mbps Ethernet speed capabilities.
