In its decision on June 28, the Supreme Court considered the constitutional mandate of the Congress to adopt two aspects of the Act on Patient Protection and Affordable Care for 2010 (ACA): Individual Mandate and Medicaid Coverage Coverage of ACA. An individual mandate requires that most Americans maintain a "minimal" coverage of health insurance and predict a "penalty" that is paid for Internal Revenue for non-compliance with the mandate starting in 2014, with limited exceptions. Medicaid's expansion calls for states to expand their coverage (with some of these costs not being guaranteed by the Act) as a condition for further funding of Federal Medicaid.
